Quote:

Ali: It is not lawful for thee (to marry more) women after this, nor to change them for (other) wives, even though their beauty attract thee, except any thy right hand should possess (as handmaidens): and Allah doth watch over all things.

Khalifa Beyond the categories described to you, you are enjoined from marrying any other women, nor can you substitute a new wife (from the prohibited categories), no matter how much you admire their beauty. You must be content with those already made lawful to you. GOD is watchful over all things.

Pickthal It is not allowed thee to take (other) women henceforth, nor that thou shouldst change them for other wives even though their beauty pleased thee, save those whom thy right hand possesseth. And Allah is ever Watcher over all things.

Shakir It is not allowed to you to take women afterwards, nor that you should change them for other wives, though their beauty be pleasing to you, except what your right hand possesses and Allah is Watchful over all things.

# reading that verse it appears that the prophet would loll out his tongue looking at hot chicks; for the life of me i can't understand why these *dirty* rascals have translated it as such!

infact, the word they have translated as "beauty" could very well have been translated as "goodness" (good qualities/conduct) or something...but for some reason they have chosen to depict the messenger as someone given to eyeing women!

...or is it that they thought that the command to lower the gaze did not apply to the prophet?

## well...how many here think messErs translators have mistranslated the verse? or is it that i am getting this wrong?

Salam brother THE,

Brother have you been parting alot these days Wink

I dont know if the 'beauty word is translated incorrectly but none of above translation means or made me think that 'prophet would loll out his tongue looking at hot chicks', what you are saying is lust not beauty.

Secondly 'though their beauty be pleasing to you' confirms that prophet was as human as you and me. Many called 'mother Tresa' (the indian nun social worker) Shes a beautiful lady. Do you think they called the 70+ year old beautiful because she was hot-chick.

Over to you!

I agree totally with you mate

Inshaallah when we reach this verse we will tranlsate it the proper way to be understood without any possible chance of manipulation by the kafir that may degrade the prophet

I also agree with you, however don't forget that you are a believer who is reading the Quran and in no way your mind may think bad about the charachter of the prophet, however I believe brother The concern is about the kafirs who try to find any hole to defame the prophet and all his followers

# i don't know about others, bro...but i think that the quran invites to the highest standards; and puts forth the prophet as an example of supreme conduct! as such, to see the prophet himself being swayed enough by beauty to want to marry them is definitely not something that i feel lives upto the expectations the quran generates (atleast for me)! the prophet was human, yes, but to say that he was like u and me is perhaps degrading his exalted character! # as in a marvellous beauty who elicit's desires in the hearts of men?

## still...i think bro ahmedbahgat got it right...the translation is highly ambiguous, and that is putting it mildly; and i still hold it's a dirty mind that has carried out that translation...especially when v have a clear verse that tells the believers to lower the gaze! it definitely came as a shock to me, and that when (or perhaps cuz) i expect the highest morality from the quran! what impression it might leave on the minds of others i dunno; ofcourse, seems u are perfectly okay with it....so maybe it comes down to perception! in fact, i think i have come across "muslim" peeps who have claimed that beautiful women were a weakness of the prophet...and i don't know what to make of that!
